Installing Save-N-Sync
Since Save-N-Sync is designed to run on several different operating systems, platform independent installers are required. Installers are available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Installation on each platform varies so be sure to follow the guidelines below that correspond to your operating system. All installers are available at http://www.savensync.com/downloads.
Windows
For Windows, Save-N-Sync is shipped as a single installer with a '.exe' extension. In order to install Save-N-Sync, download the installer, then run it. During the installation process, the installer may prompt to download the Java Runtime Environment (or JRE). This is normal and once acknowledged, the installer will take care of the process.
Platform Notes: Save-N-Sync is NOT supported in versions of Windows prior to Windows 2000 Service Pack 4. Also, Save-N-Sync cannot be installed on server versions of Windows.
Mac OS X
For Mac, Save-N-Sync is shipped in a '.dmg' file. This file can be mounted within the operating system and the Save-N-Sync installer can then be ran from there.
Platform Notes: Unlike in Windows and Linux, Mac OS X ships with a built-in Java Runtime Environment (or JRE). However, not all Mac OS X installations have the required JRE version 6 (primarily with older, non-Intel based Macs). In most cases, the installer will prompt you to update the JRE. Please contact support@savensync.com if the Mac Save-N-Sync installer does not work properly in your environment.
Linux
For Linux, Save-N-Sync is shipped as one of two '.sh' files. One is designed to run on 32-bit Linux platforms while the other is designed for 64-bit Linux platforms. Once the appropriate '.sh' file is downloaded, open a terminal window, type 'chmod +x', then drag the downloaded file into the terminal window and press the 'Enter' button on your keyboard. Once this is done, click and drag the '.sh' file back into the terminal window and press the 'Enter' button again. This will start the install process.
Platform Notes: On 64-bit platforms, the most recent Java 6 Runtime Environment must be installed BEFORE running the installer, otherwise the installer will fail. The 32-bit installer will download the Java Runtime Environment while it is installing if necessary. It is HIGHLY recommended that you DO NOT run the installer with 'su' (super user) or 'root' credentials. This may affect the placement of application shortcuts and your ability to run the application .
Save-N-Sync is licensed on a per computer basis for each of the supported connections. Upon purchasing or downloading a copy of Save-N-Sync, the appropriate license files will be generated and emailed to you based on the connections that you have chosen. Licenses for multiple connections can be installed within Save-N-Sync and used within any project.
Installing Licenses
Upon starting Save-N-Sync for the first time, the following License Information window will be displayed.
To install any licenses that you have received, click on the Browse button, navigate to and select the appropriate .lic file, then click Add. If the license is valid, it will be displayed in the Installed Licenses table with its name, corresponding version, and expiration date (if any).
Repeat this same process to install any additional licenses. When you are finished, click OK.
If you would like to add, update or remove licenses, or view current licensing status after the initial startup of Save-N-Sync, you can do so by going to the Help menu and selecting License Information. If a trial license expires and no other valid licenses are installed, you will be prompted with this licensing window the next time you start Save-N-Sync. If this happens, it will note in red that one or more licenses have expired.
Save-N-Sync comes with an auto-update function. When activated, it will check our servers to see if there is a newer version of Save-N-Sync available for download. If one is found, the following screen will be displayed.
After downloading the appropriate update, the updater will also give you the option to install it. Please note that this requires restarting Save-N-Sync so make sure to save your current project before starting the update process.
Save-N-Sync is initially set to run the auto-updater once a day when you start Save-N-Sync. To change this interval or to disable the auto-update functionality, see the Application Options screen.
Uninstalling Save-N-Sync
Save-N-Sync ships with an uninstaller for the environment you are running it in. Please use the standard platform specific method for removing programs/applications to uninstall Save-N-Sync.
