Connection Types

Top  Previous  Next

Save-N-Sync has the potential to connect to a number of different file systems, both online and on a network. Available connection types are based on installed licenses.

Possible connection types include:

Local or Network Share with and without password support
FTP Share
Amazon S3 Account
Save-N-Sync Online Storage Package

NOTE: Currently, only the "Local or Network Share" connection is available for trial and purchase. The Save-N-Sync Online Storage Package will soon be available for trial and purchase.

Local or Network Share

To configure a path that is a local or network share, enter the desired folder path in the text field shown below or click the Browse button to the right of the text field. If a folder path is manually entered, it must following the folder path conventions of the operating system that you are running. The folder can be on a local system or on a network computer or storage device. If a selected folder is valid but does not exist, it will be created when the job is ran.

NOTE: You can open the selected path in a Windows Explorer window by clicking on the appropriate text field and pressing the Enter button. This is currently only available on Windows-systems.

Network Login

Depending on your installed licenses, the Network Login link may be active beneath both the source and target path fields. Clicking this link will bring up the following dialog:

SNS_NetworkLogin

Here, you can enter log-on information for password-protected network shares. Upon doing so and clicking OK, these credentials will appear within the path configuration.

Variable Paths

Variable folder paths can be used to create:

Dynamic archives for yearly, monthly, weekly, and/or daily backups.
Dynamic synchronization based on date.
Dynamic synchronization based on logged on user or machine name

The following variables can be used:

Date                        %Date%

Time                        %Time%

Date/Time                %DateTime%

Minute                        %Minute%

Hour                        %Hour%

Day                        %Day%

Day of week                %DayOfWeek%

Year                        %Year%

Month/Year                %MonthYear%

Minute                        %n, nn%

Hour                        %h, hh%

Day                        %d, dd%

Month                        %m, mm, mmm, mmmm%

Year                        %y, yy, yyyy%

Day of week                %E, EE, EEE, EEEE%

User Name                %UserName%

User Profile Path        %UserProfile%

Computer Name        %ComputerName%

User Temp Path        %Temp%

Depending upon the argument used, these folders will be dated, named after the currently logged user, and/or named for the PC from which synchronization was launched.

NOTE: Multiple variables can be used within any path but each individual variable must be enclosed in a pair of % signs. The only variables that can be grouped within the same set of % signs are the single letter time and date variables (ie: %dd yyyy%).

NOTE: Any variable defined in the registry under 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folder' or 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders' may be used with Save-N-Sync as well. IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT NO CHANGES ARE MADE TO THE REGISTRY.
